Because nothing else you could ever do will make such a profound difference in your fortunes and misfortunes as working with your thoughts and beliefs – and observing how these are fueled by your food.

Mindful eating is the practice of bringing awareness to what you eat and drink by using your senses to choose and experience food. Mindful eating changes your relationship with food by increasing your appreciation for each step in the production of food and by refamiliarizing yourself with biological cues for hunger and satiety.

Take action

Before each meal today take 30 seconds to answer the question “Why am I eating this food?” Be honest with yourself, without judgement. Just acknowledge why you are eating and carry on. Maybe make a little note to yourself where you can compare all your answers.

It may be surprising how many of your responses are not “to nourish my body” but are instead “I’m tired,” “having a craving,” or “I don’t even know–OMG how did this food wind up in my mouth??”
